The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a key role in supporting individuals in daily living activities, community involvement, and achieving personal goals. This position promotes independence, choice, and self-determination while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of each client.

Essential Duties

Provide respectful and person-centered care based on each individual’s needs and goals
Support clients with daily living skills such as cooking, hygiene, medication reminders, and housekeeping
Assist individuals in community activities (e.g., shopping, recreation, appointments, and social outings)
Encourage and support independence, decision-making, and skill-building
Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, behaviors observed, and incidents
Follow all health and safety protocols and ensure a clean, safe living environment
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and, when appropriate, families
Advocate for client rights and choices in all aspects of care
Participate in staff training and development sessions

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma or GED required
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required for transporting clients)
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (per Arkansas DHS guidelines)
1 – 2 years’ experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills

Work Environment

Residential settings may include travel within the community
May require lifting, transferring, or physical assistance
Must be able to respond quickly in emergencies
Employees’ homes may be used as workplace (approved DSS home inspection needed)
